McMaster signs MOUs with Palestinian universities in the West Bank

McMaster’s Associate Vice-President, International Affairs, Peter Mascher recently joined Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne on a week-long trade mission to Israel and the West Bank. McMaster was among a select group of universities taking part in the mission, which focused on reinforcing Ontario's place as a leading centre for innovation in the sciences and the knowledge economy, as well as establishing stronger ties with notable universities in the region. During his visit to the West Bank, Mascher was also joined by Sabri Saidam, Minister of Education and Higher Education in Palestine, Reza Moridi, Ontario Minister of Research and Innovation and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Representative of Canada to the Palestinian Authority, Katherine Verrier-Fréchette.

Mascher signed agreements with representatives from three Palestinian post-secondary institutions including Mohammad Al-Amleh, Vice-President for Academic Affairs of An-Najah National University, Henry Giacaman, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Birzeit University and Brother Peter Bray, Vice-Chancellor of Bethlehem University.

The agreements lay the foundation for academic and research cooperation in many disciplines, including capacity-building activities such as faculty and curriculum development, community-focused programs, international research internships, and, workshops and research exchanges for faculty, researchers and staff.
